  4. GPA (Grade Point Average) HOPE/CORE GPA vs Cumulative GPA • HOPE/CORE: Only counts courses from these areas English Math Science Social Studies Foreign Language courses • Cumulative: Counts all courses Determines class rank Determines "Honor Graduate" status Prints on transcript

  5. HOPE Program HOPE Scholarship • Graduate from an accredited GA high school • Minimum 3.0 HOPE GPA • Meet “Rigor” requirements

HOPE Rigor Requirements Students graduating from high school on or after May 1, 2016, must receive at least three credits in courses from the categories listed below, prior to graduating from high school to be eligible for HOPE. • 1) Advanced math, such as Advanced algebra and trigonometry, math III, or an equivalent or higher course • 2) Advanced science, such as chemistry, physics, biology II, or an equivalent or higher course; • 3) Advanced Placement courses in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language); • 4) International Baccalaureate courses in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies and foreign language); • 5)Dual credit courses in Core subjects taken during Dual Credit Enrollment at an Eligible Postsecondary Institution; • 6) Courses taken at a unit of the University System of Georgia in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies and foreign language) where such courses are not remedial and developmental courses; or • 7) Advanced foreign language courses.

  8. HOPE Grant • Georgia's HOPE Grant (a separate program from the HOPE Scholarship) is available to Georgia residents who are working towards a certificate or diploma at an eligible college or university in Georgia. • Full-time enrollment is not required and students are not required to graduate from high school with a specific GPA, however, they are required to have a postsecondary cumulative 2.0 GPA, at certain checkpoints, in order to maintain eligibility.

  9. Athletes and NCAA Online Registration The NCAA Eligibility Center has designed a website for the student-athlete. To register with the NCAA Eligibility Center, go online to www.eligibilitycenter.organd click the link to enter as an NCAA College-Bound Student-Athlete.

  10. Division I • Complete 16 required core courses • Have a minimum core-course grade-point average of 2.300 • Meet the sliding scale of grade-point average and ACT/SAT score; and • Graduate from high school. • Please refer to NCAA website for more details.

  11. Division II • Graduate from high school; • Complete the 16 core courses required by NCAA • Earn a 2.000 grade-point average or better in your core courses • Earn a combined SAT score of 820 or an ACT sum score of 68 • Please refer to NCAA website for more details.

  12. Pathways & Recognitions • Required courses to complete a pathway will be • Listed under “Pathways” on Counseling Web Page • Advanced Academic Pathways require an AP or dual enrollment class for at least one of the required courses • Career Tech pathways also require passing the “End of Pathway Assessment” • If the pathway is completed, the student is a “Pathway Completer”

  13. Recognitions To earn the Seal of Distinction, student MUST be a Pathway Completer AND meet the following requirements: Not all pathways have a pathway club. For those pathways , club membership is not required.

  14. Recognitions To receive a Pathway Scholar Medallion, student MUST have earned a Seal of Distinction AND meet the following requirements:

Postsecondary Planning • Career Interest Surveys, Job Shadowing • Check for schools that have program in area of interest • Visit campuses • Check admission requirements and freshmen class stats • Begin test preparation (Which test is required?) • Choose courses based on goals for the future (Rigor vs. GPA)

  17. Preparing for Admissions Testing • Register for free test prep questions • ASSET/Compass practice (for technical schools) Check Lanier Tech’s admissions page for link to practice questions or http://www.act.org/compass/sample/ . • For "fee" services • Use PSAT results

  18. PSAT • Qualifying exam if taken as a Junior for National Merit Scholar Program • Juniors must register and pay to take the PSAT. • The PSAT will be given at NFHS October 15th. • Registration will take place at school in early September.
