Is Upgrading Worth the Cost? Simple Payback = Incremental cost ÷ (Annual energy cost savings + incentives) Incremental Cost = Price of HE equipment – baseline equipment price How do I know the energy cost savings and incentives?
Simple Payback Example • You choose two 7.5 ton 12.7 SEER rooftop units instead of baseline model • $5,625 incremental cost • $1,125 incentive • 1,035 kWh / year saved x $0.08 = $82.80 • $5,625 ÷ ($1,125 + $82.80) Simple Payback = 4.6 years Most Companies expect < 3 – 5 year payback
