  9. Consider post school pathways Where is the student heading? To university? What course? What pre-requisites? What assumed knowledge? What ATAR? To apprenticeships or Work? What qualifications? What knowledge and skills? What experience? To TAFE? What course? Special entry requirements? What level certificate?

Preparing for Course Counselling Appointments Do the research Learn the language Ask for advice Consider options Stay with strengths Follow your heart Discuss student strengths, interests and aspirations Review reports Research prerequisites, assumed knowledge and desired skills, knowledge and backgrounds for likely post school pathways Complete subject selection form

  11. Subject Selection Forms Students will all be given subject selection forms Read instructions carefully Fill in subject preferences Include reserve subjects

Your Course Counselling Appointment • Students bring a completed subject selection form • Year 10s • With Care group Teacher who knows the student • PLP 3 assessment • Year 11s • With a senior secondary course counsellor • Counsellors will discuss student pathways, interests and subject choices

  15. Thank you for your attendance and support of your child. Year 10 parents please remain here in PAC. Year 11 parents are invited to stay for tea and coffee in Drama space.

  16. Year 10 Specific Information

  17. Students should……. Plan ahead by planning backwards……….after school, Year 12, Year 11 Consider teacher recommendations Three main types of SACE courses

  18. 1. SACE for Tertiary Entrance To obtain a university aggregate and an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for entry in 2016 and beyond : • Complete at least 90 credits of study in Tertiary Admissions Subjects (TAS) and Recognised Studies at Stage 2 • Of the 90 credits of study a minimum of 60 credits of study must be from 20 credit Tertiary Admissions Subjects (TAS) and a maximum of 20 credits can be Recognised Studies

SACE for Tertiary Entrance The minimum Year 12 (Stage two) requirement for an ATAR is 4 Tertiary Admission Subjects (90 credits from 2015) This can be • 4 full year subjects (80 credits) plus the Research Project (10 credits) • 3 full year subjects (60 credits) plus a Flexible Option (30 credits) 5 full year subjects at stage 2 plus the Research Project is also an option.

  20. 2. SACE for completion Study a SACE course which involves a combination of Stage 2 and Stage 1 subjects across 2015 and 2016 ( or longer )

  21. 3. Other SACE courses • VET pathways and School Based Apprenticeships (SBA) • Community Studies, Flexible Learning Options • Opportunities to gain credit for Learning in the Community

  22. Compulsory SACE subjects :students must pass To obtain the SACE students must satisfactorily complete the following subjects with a minimum C grade: • PLP 10 credits • English ( Literacy) 20 credits • Mathematics (Numeracy) 10 credits • Research Project 10 credits

Research PracticesResearch Project • Semester 1: All Year 11 students study a compulsory subject named ‘Research Practices’ Helps develop skills required to be successful in the Research Project and other senior school studies • Semester 2: All Year 11 students undertake the compulsory Stage 2 Research Project • The Year 10 Personal Project and PLP are good preparation for the Research Project

PLP 3 My Future Research three career areas: • Identify steps to get there • Training/ further education required • Personal and employability skills needed • Prepare oral presentation to explain how this has affected subject choices for year 11 • 5 to 10 minute presentation assessed for PLP 3 on Monday 11 August at your interview • Students have received further specific information

Course Counselling Day Monday August 11 : No lessons for Year 10 students • Parents go on line, return the slip or phone the school to book an appointment (as per the letter distributed via students) • Students prepare for the PLP 3 oral presentation (information has been distributed to students) • Bring completed subject selection form and recommendations sheet ready to discuss and present at your appointment on Monday 11 August
