  2. Background • Educators and representatives from the heavy equipment industry have joined together to offer students experiences to help them understand the requirements and skills needed to enter this exciting field.

  3. Prerequisites • Minimum 16 years of age • 1 senior level technology credit • 1 Careers / Civics credit • Minimum 12 high school credits • Application process required

  4. Course Description • 4 credit co-op (1 semester). • Opportunity to retrieve previously unsuccessful credits through independent study. • Placements include: field technician; service technician; parts; sales; equipment operator. • Opportunities to explore industry through tours, guest speakers, certification training.

  5. Training and Certifications Students are trained in: • Worksite Introduction to Heavy Equipment • Mobile Heavy Equipment Inspection • Forklift Operation Training • Fall Arrest Training • Elevated Work Platform Training • WHMIS • CPR • First Aid

  7. Next Steps Linking with Colleges: • Georgian College • Sir Sanford Fleming • Centennial

  8. After completing the 4 credit Heavy Equipment Co-op program, students have the opportunity to further their training by taking an 8 week Equipment Training Certification course through Georgian College.

  9. Each year, Toromont Industries is offering a $3000 scholarship to a successful graduate from the 4 credit Heavy Equipment Co-op program, attending the Heavy Equipment Service and Repair Technician course at Sir Sanford Fleming.
