  2. Pollination is the movement of pollen from a stamen to the pistil of a flower. For that to happen, the pollen has to move. How does this happen?

  3. Self Pollination: - Happens in perfect flowers. The pollen simply lands on the pistil of the same flower - Happens when pollen lands on a flower on the same plant.

  4. Pollen drops from the stamen to the pistil Pollen from one flower drops onto a flower of the same plant.

  5. Cross Pollination - Is the transfer of pollen from a flower to a flower on a different plant. - Happens in all imperfect flowers.

  6. This flower has no female parts (pistil) so it can not pollinate itself.

  7. This flower has only a pistil. It has to get its pollen from another plant.

  8. How does cross pollination occur? Wind- pollen is a fine powder that is easily picked up by the wind.

  9. Wind is a big pollinator of corn plants.

  10. Insects – are attracted to flowers because of their colors and smells. Pollen sticks to their bodies And drops off on another flower.

  11. Flies, gnats, butterflies, moths and bees are some insects that carry pollen. Bees often get “hired” to pollinate fruit orchards.

  12. Hummingbirds and bats also pollinate flowers. And some pollen is carried by water.
