The Unwanteds PP by Jana
Alex • Alex Stowe knew he was Unwanted since age ten, but even three years of preparation for the Purge didn’t help the shock, the sadness and the emotion on the Purge day. • His infraction that the book mentioned was that he and Aaron, his Wanted brother, were digging one day as a chore, and Alex found a chicken bone or a stick, and drew a house in the dirt. He coaxed Aaron into trying it, and Aaron did. Then the boy’s father came out and Aaron threw the stick. It landed by Alex’s feet, and Alex got in a heap of trouble.
Aaron • Alex’s power hungry brother, a Wanted. He excelled in all of his classes, so he was regarded by High Priest Justine and since she had just told her secretary that she was getting too old for her job and she had to train an University student and go to the Ancients Home, the secretary chose Aaron.
Lani • Dark brown hair, soulful blue eyes, no wonder Alex falls for her. She is the second youngest to be Unwanted, at age 12. The first is her brother Harry, who was eliminated at age 10. (Gosh, their father, Senior Governor Hakluli, must of hated them.) • Her infraction was influencing children by telling stories. Not that big of a deal right? Well, her father wanted to keep his spot and please the High Priest Justine, so he eliminated her early. • Alex knew she wasn’t 13, because she was smaller than the rest of the 13 year olds.
Meghan • Alex’s best friend, singer and dancer. She only had one infraction, but it counted as a double. • There is a rule in Quill that if two children in the family are Unwanted, the parents are not allowed any more children. That was Meghan’s case. Her older brother Sean, and herself. • Her double infraction was singing and dancing, and Alex was there to witness it. Unfortunately, Aaron was too………
Samheed • Son of a general in the Quillitary, Samheed was sure he was going to be a Wanted. • At the time he had his infraction, three people were there. One of them was him. None were adults. The other two look alike. The good child did not betray him, the bad one did. You can try and figure it out, and if you do, I’ll tell you his infraction.
Quill Prevails When the Strongest Survive • Because of this motto, there is a place called the Ancients Home. If High Priest Justine is not happy with someone, like if they are too old, (Huh, weird because Justine is like three bazillion years old.) she will send them to spend the night in the Ancients Home. They don’t wake up in the morning. One example: The Governors and Justine were having steak for dinner. Justine complained that the steak was too tough for her bazillion year old teeth. (Sadly, she didn’t actually say the bazillion year old teeth part) She called in the cook, told him to go find someone who could actually make a good steak and then go to the Ancients Home. Sort of unfair.
Secrets of The Lake of Boiling Oil • The Lake of Boiling Oil is actually a magical place called Artime, run by Marcus Today, who has a special connection to Justine. There are lots of twins in this book. In Artime, you get Magical Warrior Training. • Justine does not know about Artime. She does have her generals come and check out the Lake though, so when they do come, everybody stays in their dorm in order to keep Artime a secret.
The Unwanteds and their classes • Alex: Main Class: Art. Taught by: Ms. Octavia. Last of his friends to start Magical Warrior Training. • Lani: Main Class: Writing. Taught by: Unknown. Third of friends to start MWT. • Meghan: Main Class: Music. Taught by: Claire Morning. First to start MWT • Samheed: Main Class: Theater. Taught by: Mr. Applebottom. Second to start MWT.
Problem • Justine has discovered Artime. She declares war. Can the Magical Warriors stop the Quillitary? Find out in The Unwanteds.
