Key Dates • March 7: Makeup testing for students absent on March 6 only • No schools in SCUSD will take the May 1 writing test administration. Test materials must be ready for pick-up by 8:00 AM on the specific date(s) for pick-up depending on your school’s Warehouse delivery schedule for the week.
Ensure Test Security • Keep the tests secure at all times • Test materials available only the testing period • Collect and account for all response booklets BEFORE dismissing students • Return all test materials to the STAR test site coordinator upon completion of testing • Administer the test in accordance with the directions for administration (DFA)
Test Security Affidavit Send copies of signed Test Security Affidavits to STARSupport@sac-city.k12.ca.usor Box 780 by March 2, 2012 Sign by all others having access to STAR Tests
Writing Tests • Writing tests are required • CST and CMA • Grades 4 and 7 • Examiners need to ensurecorrect test (CST or CMA) given • Check IEPs to determine whether CST or CMA • See bottom of response booklet and DFA
Writing Tests • For students with disabilities: • Prompt and passage may be read aloud • If specified in IEP or Section 504 plan • As an accommodation if regularly during classroom instruction and assessments • Mark Z on back of answer document • Accommodation of extended time is limited to 1 day only • No additional pages may be inserted
Test Administration Time • Writing tests are not timed. However, the tests must be administered: • Only on the day specified on the cover of the Writing Prompt and Response Booklet or the following day if administering a makeup test. • Only at the time specified in the school’s testing schedule. • In one sitting, with no breaks, unless the student has an IEP that allows the student to take breaks during testing or the student is an English learner who is eligible to take additional supervised breaks as an allowable test variation. • CST-Writing Test (About 75 minutes) • CMA-Writing Test (About 70 minutes)
Test Materials Needed • Test Examiner Materials • California Writing Standards Test OR California Modified Writing Standards Test Directions for Administration • Corresponding Grade 7 Writing Prompt and Response Booklet for demonstration • “Testing—Do Not Disturb” signs for doors • Student Materials • Grade 7 Writing Prompt and Response Booklet (blank or Pre-ID) • Two No. 2 pencils with erasers (plus extras)
Student Roster • Provide a student roster to examiners (Could be class roster from Zangle) A “Yes” in the CMA ELA column means the student has been identified to take CMA Writing Test according to IEP
Test Examiner Responsibilities–Before Testing • Attend training and sign test security affidavit • Read Directions for Administration (DFA) and flag where to begin, available at: • http://www.scusd.edu/training-resources-test-site-coordinators • Make sure physical conditions of testing rooms are satisfactory • Make sure instructional materials directly related to the content of the test are not visible to students • Post “Testing-Do Not Disturb” sign on door on day of testing • Write name of test examiner, school, and district on board
Test Examiner Responsibilities–During Testing • Verify that all test materials are ready • Have students clear desks • Distribute response booklets to only students whose names are on them and give blank response booklets to students with no Pre-ID documents • Read “SAY” boxes exactly as they are written • Check periodically that students are following directions and writing their responses on the lined pages to be scored
Pre-ID Answer Documents (AD) Pre-ID Barcode: Check student name and give to correct student All students must complete Section 1: Write Student Name, Test Examiner, School, and District
Test Examiner Responsibilities–During Testing: Cheating • If the test examiner or proctor observed a student cheating, e.g., using unauthorized materials, copying, or helping another student, he or she must stop the cheating. • After testing, the examiner must mark C in Section A2, Special Conditions, on the student’s response booklet and notify the STAR test site coordinator.
Test Examiner Responsibilities – After Testing • Verify that all test materials are collected • Check that students filled out Section 1 • Hand-grid all demographic information for all students without pre-ID documents • Code answer documents as necessary for • A2: Special testing conditions • A3: Accommodations and modifications • A4: EL test variations • Return all testing materials to test site coordinator in Room #

Test Examiner Responsibilities – After Testing Cont. • Transcribe braille and large print (or not processed) • Write VOID on any answer document(s), with marks, not to be scored; return with nonscorables
