  2. Workshop Developed and Facilitated by Dedicated Volunteers TRB Highway Safety Performance Committee (ANB25) • Past TRB Task Force for the Development of Highway Safety Manual User Liaison and Technology Facilitation and Roadway Safety Management Subcommittees LTAP, FHWA, and AASHTO

  3. Workshop Purpose and Vision Train the Trainer • Will provide basic safety analysis skills and materials for LTAP and TTAP center staff • Will be designed to fill in the gaps between, and be complementary of, other existing safety analysis training • Will focus on hands-on application of safety analysis processes • Modular with possible customization

  4. Introduction:Learning Objectives Define nominal and substantive safety Discuss different approaches to safety projects Define key steps of the roadway safety management process Introduce safety analysis tools

  5. Workshop Modules Overview of Roadway Safety Management Working with Crash Data Network Screening Diagnosis of Areas of Interest Selecting Countermeasures Tool Demo and Resources Funding Sources

  6. Workshop Learning Outcome (1) Use a baseline knowledge of crash data, crash reports and safety terminology to extract actionable information. Execute the components of the “Safety Management Cycle” for a local agency given a variety of levels of data. Explain the significance of the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) with respect to higher level data intensive analysis

  7. Workshop Learning Outcome (2) Use a number of analytical techniques of varying complexity to determine safety countermeasures. Outline the strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of analytical techniques. Effectively use published crash reduction factors (CRFs) or crash modification factors (CMFs)
