Personal Life • Aristotle was born in 384 BC in Stagira • He was an ancient Greek philosopher • At the age of seventeen, he went to Athens to study at Plato’s Academy • He opened his own philosophical school called Lyceum • Aristotle died in 322 BC
Idea of the atom • Made of four “elements” earth, fire, water, and air. • Four qualities to these elements: dryness, hotness, coldness and moistness • Fifth element called aither
Experiment/ Area of Study • Aristotle studies Physics, Logic, Biology, poetry, theater, music, politics, government and ethnics
Major Scientific contributions • Scientific method • Physics: examined nature of matter, space, time and motion • Cosmology: all things fall toward the centre of earth or move around the earth
