Background information • PIE evolved from a multi-agency partnership group including Jobcentre Plus, Social Services & the Royal Hospital Sunderland. • Established 9 years ago in response to an identified gap in provision for employment services for people who were carers, ex-carers & people with disabilities. • PIE Project is situated within the ETEC Organisation.
WHAT IS PIE? • An independent, impartial and informal project which supports people who want to return to work. • Working in partnership with voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations. • This allows P.I.E. the opportunity to tap into City wide resources to assist you in your quest for employment.
OUR AIM IS TO HELP • People with any kind of disability or long-term medical condition • Carers & ex-carers • Hidden people who are not known to any of the statutory agencies
DEFINE A CARER • A carer is someone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour who due to illness, disability, frailty or addiction is unable to manage alone. • Carers & ex-carers are a vulnerable group, they may have been away from the labour market for many years. • Carers are effectively ‘hidden’ and are not the subject of any statutory funding programmes. • Welfare benefit criteria mean that carers are often required to find employment 6 weeks after their criteria role ends.
WAYS P.I.E. CAN HELP? • Work Placements and work trials • Help with application forms • Interview preparation • Training can be arranged • Guaranteed interviews with some employers • Links with other agencies
