Warm-up (independent, level 0 noise): Please complete this in your journal below the CQ. You do not need to be in the supply boxes at this time! We are making Pumpkin Pie for the holidays. Each pie can serve 8 people. What fraction can we use to convert the current ingredients to serve: 21 people 25 people
Presentation • Before Thanksgiving Break, we learned how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions by finding common denominators, making equivalent fractions, simplifying, and finding the reciprocal (division only). • Today, you will be converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and improper fractions to mixed numbers. We will use key words convert, mixed number, and improper fraction.
Vocabulary • convert – to change from one form to another • mixed number – a whole number and a fraction • improper fraction – a fraction larger than one whole; the numerator is larger than the denominator
Mixed Numbers • A mixed number has a part that is a whole and a part that is a fraction. 3 1 = 4
