EUROPEAN CODING SYSTEM FOR HYDROLOGICAL FEATURES Proposal for update of CIS for WFD - Guidance Document No.22, App.7 (Implementing the GIS elements)
Code format HSIICCCCCPPPPPPPPPPPPEELL or visualised on feature geometry: HS-CCCCC-PPPPPPPPPPP-EE-LL GIS guidance no.22 Nov.2008 FORMAT OF THE CODE for Hy. Feature:
Type of proposed updates • consistency between main text and appendix 7 and consistency with Marine Strategy • Logical updates of proposed (“non GIS”) coding (“talking code”) • GIS guidance update if MS does not choose to do proposed coding
Consistency: 1) between main text in Guidance Doc. and text in Appendix 7 and 2) between GIS Guidance Doc. and Marine Strategy
Updates for Guidance Doc. No. 22 (“H” segment): In Guidance Doc. No. 22 (“H” segment): 7 Oceans: Northern Atlantic Ocean (A) Mediterranean Sea (M) Arctic Ocean (N) Southern Atlantic Ocean (S) Indian Ocean (I) Northern Pacific Ocean (P) Southern Pacific Ocean (B) and 4Endorheic systems: Caspian Sea (C) Orumiyeh Lake (H) Van Lake (V) Tuz Saltlake (Z) (7+4) =11 hydrological systems into (9+4)=13 h.s. 4 Endorheicsystems Remark: Prespa Lake and Trasimeno Lake are integrated into Mediterranean Sea
In Guidance Doc. No. 22 (”S” segment): Updates for Guidance Doc. No. 22 (“S” segment): 1 Atlantic ocean 2 Norwegian Sea 3 Barents Sea 4 North Sea 5 Baltic Sea 6 Celtic Sea and English Channels 7 West Mediterranean Sea 8 East Mediterranean Sea 9 Black Sea 9 sea region to (15 +4 )=19 s.r.
ECRINS DATA SET: - CCCCC segment (in green: primary catchments with codes 00002 or 00004 or 00006 or 00008) - to be updated with HSCCCCCpart of the code
LARGE RIVER DATA SET: - - to be updated with HSCCCCC part of the code (harmonised with ECRINS)
Remark: In the Danube coding: “CA” for canal and “BF for bifurcation also used
HSIICCCCCPPPPPPPPPPPPEELL or visualised on feature geometry: HS-II-CCCCC-PPPPPPPPPPP-EE-LL • Bifurcations: • major river segment or major bifurcation (“EE”= RS) • minor bifurcation (river branch) (“EE”= RB) • Karst: • Underground river (“EE”= RU) • Perennial lake (“EE” = LP)
Format of the code for hydrological features (overview) HSIICCCCCPPPPPPPPPPPPEELL
Conclusions: • A fixed length (25 places) of the hydrological feature code (one attribute field) is proposed; Code segments also given in separate fields (H, S, I, C, P, E, L) • “CCCCC” segment with zeroes backwards • “12xP” segment with zeroes backwards • First two positions of a code (“H”, “S”) and “CCCCC” segments are predefined on European level (in GIS g.) • “II”, “12P”, “EE” and “LL” segments are defined by countries • update of ECRINS, LARGE RIVER, GIS guidance nedeed in regard to H, S and C elements • Description of II coding needed
Ilustration zeroes backwards: CCCCC 20000 00002 22000 00022 24000 00024 26000 00026 28000 00028
