What can teachers do to prepare for jobs in your company? • It would be very helpful to be knowledgeable in the following: • Coding by a RCCB certified coder • Data entry by trained medical billing staff • Billing insurance to include; Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, Workers' Comp • Daily electronic and mail claims submission • Daily collections on accounts • Payment posting • On-line payments • Daily follow-up of claims and accounts by trained account representatives
ADVICE FROM THE SUPERVISOR • Depending how long your course is, teach students to gain as much as experience as they can thru an internship program. More and more employers do not have the time to train due to time restraints and someone who applies for an opening who has the experience will more likely be hired. Internships are important in order for your students to say "I have experience".
EMPLOYEE QUESTIONS • Interviewed Jocelyn Martinez • Position: Administrator • I am the Administrator of this practice so my typical work day is consumed with the day-to-day operation of this practice. For our Billing Office staff, it can vary from data entry, claims processing, insurance follow-up, collections, correspondence, answering phones, etc. • I have been with GRA for over 10 years; some of my billing and administrative staff have been here an average of 10-20 years. • For my position, I do have an AA in business administration, but I also have over 40 years experience in this field. Most of my staff were hired due to their experience and not education.
MEDICAL CODING REQUIREMENTS • GRA currently averages 7,000 medical claims per month. • Must have knowledge and experience with CPT-Current Procedural Coding and ICD 10 DM coding. • We have specialists in intervention radiological services. • Coder should have at least 3 years of coding experience. • Coder should be familiar with the Diagnostic procedures that would incur in a Radiological Sector.
