GHS Activities in Lao PDR • The Lao PDR was sign MOA with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on 08 August 2006, on Training and Capacity Building for the implementation of the GHS of Classification and Labeling in Laos, • Implementation agency • Environment Research Institute (ERI),Science Technology and Environment Agency (STEA) • National GHS Coordinator • Environment Quality Monitoring Center.

GHS Activities in Lao PDR (Con) • Establish the GHS implementation Committee • Lead Sectoral Agencies: • Department of Agriculture, MAF • Food and Drug Department, MoH • Department of Industry, MoIC • Foreign Trade Department, MoIC • Department of Transport, MoCTPC • Other Participating Agencies: Environment, Customs, Planning, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Defense, Commerce and Trade, Justice, Labour • Business and Industry Organizations • Public Interest and Labour Organizations • Academic and Professional Organizations

4. GHS Activities in Lao PDR (Con) • Hold National GHS workshop: • Consultation Workshop on planning for implementation of the Project on capacity building in implementing GHS on July 4,2006 • National Planning Meeting of the project on capacity building in implementing GHS on September 5, 2006

GHS Activities in Lao PDR (Con) • Conduct Comprehensibility Testing and prepare report on CT survey (National University, Faculty of Medicine) • Prepare Comprehensive National Situation and Gap Analysis Report for 5 Sectors: • Agriculture, MoAF • Health, MoH • Industry, MoIC • Trade , MoIC • Transportation, MoCTPC

7. Future Plan for GHS Activities in Lao PDR • Draft GHS implementing legislation or regulations for 5 sectors concerned by the GHS • Draft sector implementation plan • Raising awareness and capacities of public interest and labour organizations in GHS implementation • Facilitate awareness raising for participation of affected business and industries

8. Future Plan for GHS Activities in Lao PDR (Con) 5. Development of a National GHS Implementation Strategy for National GHS Implementation by 2008

9. Suggestion • Strengthening Capacity of institutions towards the GHS implementation in Lao PDR, • Public awareness is not wide in Lao PDR, we would like to request UNITAR and other donors to support this activities personal and private sectors

10. Suggestion • To achieve the above proposed tasks, the Lao PDR, require UNITAR expert to assist GHS implementation such as : • GHS implementing legislation or regulations for 5 sectors, • Development of a National GHS Implementation Strategy for National GHS Implementation by 2008 • Continues to support all activities above
