Vincent Van Gogh Still Life Vase with Irises 1890 The artist has captured, in this image, the powerful force of living things. An important feature of Irises is the expressive use of paint, colour and line that capture the energy and power of nature. Swirling thick and expressive paint is a feature of the work and style of VanGogh. Rather than representing the world as we "see" it with our eyes Van Gogh depicted life around him as he felt it - through colour and texture.
