  2. CSAP:The CSAP is a reliable assessment that allows students to show what they know and are able to do in the content areas of reading, writing, mathematics and science. The results are applied in tracking student year-by-year results for grades 3-10 for reading, writing and mathematics and 5, 8, and 10 for science.Approximately 1.6 million CSAP tests were administered to about 465,000 students in March and April 2010.

CSAP:Scores overall were flatStudents of color showed marked improvement (but need significantly more gain) in reading and math across all gradesOur state’s eighth graders across the state in most subjects, by gender and ethnicity made significant advances and appear to beat their own best from last year!Results in writing were disappointing

  4. CSAP:There was an increase in the percentage of students in the proficient and advanced range in 2010 from last year in reading for grades 4, 7, and 8. Eighth grade improved by 4 points.The six year trend for mathematics shows improvement in three out of eight grades tested (4, 6, and 8). Of the three grades assessed in science, only grade 5 showed improvement between 2009 and 2010.

CSAP:Approximately 68% of our students are proficient or advanced in reading 4th-10th grade Approximately 53% of our students are proficient or advanced in writing 4th-10th grade Approximately 52% of our students are proficient or advanced in mathematics 4th-10th gradeIn the three grades we test in science (5th, 8th, 10th) 47% are proficient or advanced

  6. CSAP by Ethnicity:The percentage of students in the proficient and advanced range for reading increased for all racial and ethnic groups in grade 8. For reading, Hispanic and Black student groups had more grades (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) that showed improvement in their percentage of proficient and advanced than all other groups.Native Americans showed substantial improvement for reading in grades 4, 6, and 8.The percentage of students in the proficient & advanced category for writing increased for all groups in grade 8.The results for math showed improvement in the % of proficient and advanced for all groups in grades 8 and 9.

  7. CSAP by Ethnicity:The percentage of students in the proficient and advanced category for mathematics improved for most groups in grades 3, 5, and 10; in grade 7, the percentage decreased for all groups.There were improvements in mathematics for Black students in six grades (3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10), five grades for Hispanics (3, 5, 8, 9, and 10) and Native Americans (3, 4, 8, 9, and 10), and four grades for Whites (3, 5, 8, and 9).All groups, with the exception of Native Americans, showed an increase in the proficient and advanced range in science in grade 5.The percentage of Black students in the proficient and advanced range increased for science in grade 8.

CSAP by Gender:In reading, the percent of males in the proficient and advanced range increased in grade 8.In reading, the percent of females in the proficient and advanced range increased for grades 4, 5,6,7,8 and 9. The gap between males and females for reading proficiency widened in the higher grades.Increases in the percentage of proficient and advanced for mathematics occurred in grades 3,4,5,8 and 9 for boys and in grades 3, 5, and nine for girls.Males continued to have a higher percentage in the proficient and advanced range than females for science for the three grades assessed.

CSAP Alternate:5000 students with cognitive disabilities in Colorado are given an alternate assessment Three grades (6,8, and 9) showed an increase in the % of students in the developing and novice proficiency ranges, with 8th grade showing the largest increase (4 points)Writing showed increases in grades 6 and 9

Colorado’s ACT: There were 52,951 Colorado eleventh grade students taking the Colorado ACT in 2010, an increase from 2009 of 1,466 students.The state average composite score is down slightly from last year (19.4 in 2010 from 19.6 in 2009).All content areas except English also showed slight decreases in the state average scores from 2009. The English average score remained the same.Females outperform males on Reading (males 19.1, females 20.2) and English (males 18.0, females 19.3).Males outperform females on Math (males 19.6, females 19.1) and Science Reasoning (males 19.6, females 19.5).
