What is Inclusion? • U.S. legislation mandates this practice • Schools must educate those with special needs in a regular classroom • More than two-thirds
History • Late 1960’s – concerns and questions about children with special needs being removed from classrooms • Children being placed out of the regular classroom worse • First step: mainstreaming • All students are entitled to attend regular classrooms
History cont.IDEA 1975 • From birth to age of 21 • Six major principles • Zero reject: Educate all • Nondiscriminatory Identification and Evaluation: Use nonbiased methods of evaluation
