The first two steps happen at theborrowing (patron’s) library Searching the oPac Requesting the item
Click the drop down arrow and select their library, then click the submit button.
The patron enters name and library card number and selects their pickup location, then clicks submit.
The next steps happen at the lending library INN-Reach paging slips are run The item is retrieved from the shelf From the INN-Reach menu, the item is checked out to the borrowing library
The item is appropriately tagged for the courier • Bundle together no more than 3 books per courier location • Include courier code and date • Check the Prospector Loan box on the courier slip
Back at the patron’s library… • The item comes in on the courier • Choose check-in mode in MilCirc • Scan the item barcode • Keep patron hold slip with the item and place the item on the hold shelf • Patron is notified when hold pickup notices are run
Checking out to the patron • In Millennium Circ Desk mode • Locate the patron record • Scan the item barcode
When the item is returned… • Check in Prospector materials as you do all others • Choose check-in mode in MilCirc • Scan or key item barcode • Print transit slip • Process to return to the owning library via the courier
Detours in the path of a Prospector loan • Scanning the barcode during receiving from Prospector and no barcode is found • Locate the patron’s record (name on paging slip) • Click on the INN-Reach tab • Find the item with no barcode • Highlight that line and right click the mouse • Choose “insert barcode” • Key or scan the barcode • Return to check in mode and check the item in • Process for hold shelf
Check box to print hold slip to place in book • Once you insert the barcode, it changes the status of the item to "Prospector received" and it is ready for the hold shelf. No need to check it in... • Make sure that the "Print Holdslip" is checked: that is your ONLY chance to print it!… • (as tested by Nathalie at PCL…)
Canceling requests – local patrons • Prospector requests can be canceled by patrons from their account on the oPac • They can also be canceled by staff in Millennium circulation
Canceling in the oPac • The patron logs into their account • Click on the Holds link • Select the title to cancel • Click the “cancel selected” button • The system cancels the request with no chance to change your decision
Canceling in Millennium • Locate the patron record • Click on the holds tab • Highlight the hold to cancel • Click the cancel button • Unlike a Marmot hold, canceling a Prospector hold happens with no chance to change your mind. There is no pop-up window asking if you are sure.
Canceling holds: non-local patron • Example: Requested item is not available • Locate item record in Marmot database • Highlight and click cancel hold • Select cancellation reason from list • Will be sent to patron via email You could also call the requesting library so they can notify the patron.
Returning an unwanted item • When a patron cancels a hold after the item has already been paged, pulled, and put in transit, the receiving library does the following when the item arrives at the library… • From the INN-Reach menu • Choose Return item • Scan the barcode • Return to the owning library via courier
Renewals • Prospector materials can be renewed • Unless… • There is a hold on the item • The loan rule doesn’t allow for renewal of the particular itype
Transfer request • Prospector loans are for specific items by barcode • The paging slip prints the barcode • When the specific item isn’t found on the shelf, the request may be able to be transferred. It must be to an item on the same bib owned by the same library or to another branch library within the same library district. (i.e.: from Rifle to Silt, both in Garfield County, but not from Rifle to MCPLD)
Follow these steps: • Locate the bib record and choose the summary view • Choose Holds in the View drop-down list • In the item summary, select the item from which you want to transfer the hold and choose the Transfer Holds button. A window pops up. • In the drop-down list, choose the item to which you want to transfer the item-level hold; then, choose the OK button. Note that you may not transfer an item's hold if that item is currently on the holdshelf.

Running a report 1) Choose report type from the drop down menu 2) Enter number of days 3) Choose sort selection 4) Click on prepare
Report can be sorted by clicking on the heading of any of the columns To print, click the icon. Send to your email account so you can sort through the list and find the items you need to deal with.
To view details: highlight the line, right click, select “view detail” and the details window opens. From this you can highlight and copy the item number or the barcode and then search for the item in Millennium.
INN-Reach holdshelf • Choose the “Clear holdshelf” icon • Select INN-Reach hold shelf • Select location from the drop-down menu • Choose display and print • To clear the INN-Reach holdshelf of the items listed in the report, scan the item barcodes in the INN-Reach - Return unwanted items mode.
From the INN-Reach menu Choose Return item Scan the barcode Return to the owning library via the courier
