Visiting the baths • In present day millions of people visit the bath, you can look but can’t swim.
When baths were created • The Celts made the first Public Bath. • Dedicated to the goddess Sulis
Public Bathing? • In ancient Rome, public bathing was the way to go, it was accepted by everyone.
Who uses the baths • Men us the bath after work. And then women would use it.
Use of the baths • Bathing • Running • Recreation • Library • Snacks
Tools • Strigil-scrap oil off skin • Towel- dry self • Oil flask –put on oil to body
Rooms • Cold Room • Cold pool
The Heating system • Heating system to heat the baths. • hypocaust
Private Bath Houses • Wealthy Romans sometimes had private bath houses but they were open to the public for a fee
In the Bath House • First they went to a changing room to change from street clothes to bathing clothes • Lockers for clothing
Bathing • After exercise, the Romans removed dirt and oils with the strigil
Under the baths • The heat from the baths were coming from under the baths. • Slaves used fire to heat the baths.
Largest Roman bath • Diocletian • Created in A.D 305, covered an area of 130,000 sq yards
