AIM • Appreciate the wonders of the living world. • To investigate the relationship between biotic & abiotic factors. • Integrate the data to apply understanding of rocky shore habitat. • Finding out the interactions between organism & the environment.
Introduction • Rocky coast-line open to wave action • Living organisms relatively protected in a bay. • Presence of many rocky pools and boulders. • Zonation pattern observed
Profile of the transect (cm) Pool 1 Pool 2 Pool 3 Transect line 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 (m) • 3 rock pools along the transect • Lower zone exposed to the splashing action of strong wave Explain the data above

Biotic factors Kite diagram of rocky shore Press here to open the kite diagram
Abiotic factors Average wind speed (m/s) and direction: 1.69m/s from WEST (1)---rock pools, (2)---crevices, (3)rock surfaces Back to profile
Finding out • Condition of rocky pool at the land side is more extreme • Rock surfaces dry out quickly at low tides, living things suffer from dessication • Living organisms mostly presents at rock pools, crevices or lower zone reach by the waves
Adaptation Common chitons石鼇 • Have 8 pieces of soft plates for protection • Attaches firmly on the rocky surface by their muscular foot • They are herbivore and flatten • Live in strong wave area Acorn barnacles綠鱗笠藤壺 • Cemented firmly on the exposed rocky surface • Hard shell
Green algae 綠藻 • Slimy
