Disease • Any state other than a state of complete health. • Includes injuries and metabolic disorders • What causes diseases? • Microorganisms and pathogens • Pathogen- any living disease-producing agent
Symptoms • What the animal exhibits that is different from the normal function • Examples: fever, weight loss, reduced performance
Causes of disease • Resistance- the natural ability of an animal to remain unaffected by pathogens, toxins, irritants, or poisons. • Predisposing condition- cause the animal to be more susceptible to disease. • Example: poor nutrition
