  3. MARRIAGE In 1975 only 6% of marriages were preceded by cohabitation by 2008, 78% of those who married had lived together beforehand.

  4. DIVORCE 1 in 3 marriages will end in divorce The average length of a marriage is 12.5 years More women file for divorce than men

  5. DIVORCE In 2008 48.8% of divorces involved children – affecting 43,184 little lives over 1 in 5 families with children under the age of 15 are single-parent families. 2 out of 5 children will be going to sleep tonight with only one parent in the home.

  6. BIRTHS In 1960, 6% of babies born were born outside of marriage Today 33% of children are born outside of marriage. That’s 1 in 3

  7. WORKING FAMILIES 80% of families (including single-parent) have children under the age of 15 with no other children. In approximately 62% of families all parents are working. (includes single and dual parent families) Double income families = 82.8% use childcare Single parent + single income families = 96.1% use childcare

  8. MISTREATMENT OF CHILDREN In 2008-2009 there were 54,621 substantiated claims of child abuse. That's 1 case of abuse for every 7 children aged 0-14.

  9. THE UNBORN An estimated 80,000 - 90,000 surgical abortions are performed in Australia each year = 250 per day = one abortion for every 2.8 children born 1 in 3 Australian women will have an abortion in their lifetime
