Radiating and receiving antennas • Physical dimensions are related to wavelength. • wavelength=(speed of light)/(frequency) =c/f • Device that transforms guided signal into radiated electromagnetic waves and vice versa • A cellular phone antenna works at around 109 Hz=1GHz • Our design frequency:193 Terahertz (1012Hz=1THz), almost 200,000 times the frequency of your phone! f= 193 THz =1.5m f=20-400 MHz =15-0.75m f=400-800 MHz =75-38 cm f=1-2 GHz =30-15cm f= 5 THz =60m
