You are Cordially Disinvited The Honorable Timothy Geithner Secretary of the US Treasury With Members of the President’s Auto Taskforce & US Treasury’s Auto Team To discuss the termination of Delphi pensions in the taxpayer funded bailout of GM Monday April 6th, 2009 at The US Treasury Department “It’s for the best”
RSVP As a result of the 2009 taxpayer bailout of General Motors, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) in consultation with the U.S. Treasury resulted in over 20,000 current and future Delphi salaried retirees from across the country to take severe cuts in their hard earned pensions and benefits. Under federal law, the PBGC is the only government entity with proper authority to take a position or make a decision on these matters. The Treasury Department’s views on government-initiated pension terminations are irrelevant. It would have been improper for Treasury to be making representations about what PBGC may or may not do. Despite testimony to the contrary, internal emails surfaced showing PBGC officials were “Disinvited” from a meeting by US Treasury to discuss the handling of Delphi pensions.
