PART FOUR – WRITING (25 pts) Using the information you have gathered from the listening and reading texts, along with your own ideas, answer the following question in your own words. Your answer should be more than 200 words. Question It is not easy for a person to be happy.Do you agree?Why/Why not?
There are three reasons why I do not agree with the statement “it is not easy for a person to be happy.” In my opinion it is easy to be happy if a person; has friends in their life, are satisfied with what they have, and share with others. Firstly, if people have friends in their lives they are happier because they are not alone. They have people to go places and do activities with. This allows them to meet more people and to possibly become even happier, with an increasing circle of friends. According to the reading, people who have a good social life are the most happiest. Secondly, people should be satisfied with what they have. If people have enough money, possessions etc. to give them a good standard of life, why want more? Having more money means you can buy more of what you want; but as stated in the listening, research has shown that this does not increase a person’s happiness. Stay with what you have. Finally, to share with others less fortunate increases happiness. If you see someone struggling, or with a problem, it is unlikely they are happy. By sharing what you have with that person you will increase their happiness, and possibly make their life easier. As a result of knowing this, your happiness should also increase. To conclude, I feel it is easy for a person to be happy. All you have to do is find some friends, be happy with what you have, and share a little.
