  2. Derek was born June 1974 in New Jersey. He is the oldest of his family. Derek has a younger sister named Sharlee. Derek moved to Michigan when he was 4 years old. When Jeter was a boy he wanted to play for the New York Yankees. Derek was a super star at a young age. He was the best on his team and could throw the ball hard.

  3. Derek played shortstop for Kalamazoo central high school . Jeter was a really good player. During the 11th grade he batted 557 and 508 during the 12th grade. He won the Gatorade award. This is a honor given to the top best student-athlete.

  4. A lot of Major League teams wanted Derek Jeter. Dick Groch was the scout for the Yankees. He called his family two days before the draft. On June 1,1992 they got Derek on the sixth draft pick. The Yankees offered Derek $700,000 to join the Yankees and paid for his college education.

  5. Derek Jeter has won 5 World Series Championships. He is the Yankees all time leader in hits (3088), games played (2426), stolen bases (329), and at bats (9868). Jeter has earn the name “Captain Clutch” and “Mr. November” due to his postseason accomplishments.

  6. One thing Derek Jeter started was the Turn 2 Foundation. The foundation is for ninth grade students in New York schools. You have to have a B average. They make them promise to not use drugs, tobacco, and alcohol . If the students complete the program they will pay for college.
