Outline • Definition of DNA. • DNA structure. • Characteristics of DNA. • Disorder of DNA result from. • Examples • Methods of treatment. • Future expectations. • Ways of agricultural improvements. • Disadvantage of modified food. • Conclusion. • References.
Definition of DNA • DNA ( deoxyribonucleic acid ): a polynucleotide having a specific sequence of deoxyribonucleotide units; serves as the carrier of genetic information .
DNA structure • Nitrogen bases. • Deoxyribose sugar. • Phosphate group.
Characteristics of DNA • Replication. • Storage of information. • Expression of information. • Variation by mutation .
Single mutation. Specific chromosomal abnormality. Disorder of DNA result from
Down syndrome. Sickle-cell anemia. For example
Methods of treatment • Blood transfusions. • Organ transplant.
Future expectations • Identification of new genes. • Correct genetic defects • Improve the agriculture.
Ways of agricultural improvements Enhance potential for more vigorous growth. Increase resistance to natural predators. Production of hybrids exhibiting a combination of superior traits derived from two different strains.
Disadvantage of modified food It may harm our health because they had little time for research on long-term medical and ecological effects on modified foods .
Conclusion The discovery of DNA structure help people to diagnose the genetic disease and help the society in the agricultural fields .
