Three Branches of the Government Group Project What will you be doing?
Your Task . . . When the American people won their independence from British in 1786, they had to decide what kind of government they should form. They had to be careful and form a government where there would not just be one person who had so much control. After the Articles of Confederation were written, Congress was able to make laws, approve the laws, and act as a court to settle disagreements between the states. But this began to create problems. So the delegates decided to create three branches of government instead of one. Each would have a certain role to fulfill. TheLegislative Branch would make the laws. An Executive Branch would carry out the laws. A Judicial Branch would settle differences about the meaning of the laws. Today you will take on the role as an reporter. It is your goal to report back to the class how a part of our United States Government works.
How you will work together . . . • You will be split up into 6 different groups. (3 in each with 2/3 groups having 4 people) • In this group each person will have a job • Some one is the Researcher – looks up all the information on the computer • Someone is the Writer – takes notes on the information the group is looking for and finds • Someone is the Designer – designs how their poster will be set up and gathers what supplies are needed
How you will be graded . . . • Each group will get one of the 3 branches of government • 1 and 4 the Executive Branch • 2 and 5 the Legislative Branch • 3 and 6 the Judicial Branch • You have certain criteria you will be searching for. • You will get a rubric with all the items listed. They will all be expected to be on your poster – this poster will be displayed on out Government Tree which will be in the hallway • You will also grade each other in how well you worked together.
