  3. Year 10 into Year 11 • Very short academic year – 8 months (including holidays) • Pressure builds immediately on return from Summer Holiday • Exams and coursework deadlines are an on-going feature of the year

Determine VIth form • VIth Form colleges set specific entry criteria • Majority of courses beyond GCSE will stipulate a minimum level of attainment in certain subjects • C grade in English and Mathematics a minimumrequirement in an overwhelming amount of F.E. establishments for vast majority of age applicable courses

  5. Determine college course • Level 1 - equivalent to D-G GCSE • Essentially pre GCSE • Level 2 - equivalent to A*-C GCSE • GCSE equivalent • Level 3 – beyond GCSE • A Level equivalent

Determine career • Entering at Level 1 or 2 doesraise question marks for prospective employers • Whole array of courses and careers have subject-specificentry requirements • Social work – Minimum C in English and Mathematics • Teaching – Minimum C in English and Mathematics • Nursing – Minimum C in English and Mathematics • RAF(Logistics) – Minimum C in English and Mathematics • British Army – Minimum C in English and Mathematics to gain promotion beyond regular army

Can lead to a degree, but no fees and working/earning while studying • Your FROG page has latest apprenticeship vacancies which are updated every week. • OR • Log on to apprenticeships.org.uk • Click ‘search for vacancies’, start searching and register. You can search using keywords, job role or postcode. Apprenticeships

Course Structure – November Entry Unit 1: Exam Tuesday 5th November 2013 2hrs 15mins 6 questions (4 reading, 2 writing) 40% 20% Unit 2: Speaking and Listening Centre assessed 3 tasks: presenting, discussing and role play Unit 3: Controlled Assessment Centre assessed 4 tasks – • Extended reading • Two creative writing pieces • Spoken language study 40%

  15. Why enter in November? Because the course structure appears to be changing, and achieving a ‘C’ will most probably get harder. Key Exam Information • Each paper carries 14 marks for the technical accuracy of English. • While a ‘C’ is the highest grade available on the foundation paper, it does not limit you to a ‘C’ overall. • Exam technique is vital. You must show the right skills in the right way in the right place. • All of our calculations are based on 2012’s grade boundaries and are subject to change. You will receive updated information in September.

  25. foundation Revision Workbooks In the packs you will receive at the end of this evening there is a revision guide and workbook. In the envelope there is also a cover sheet. This outlines what we expect the students to complete by the first lesson back in September. All of the questions are examination style questions. By working over the summer each student will increase their chance of gaining a grade C in Mathematics.

This outlines what we expect the students to complete by the first lesson back in September. All of the questions are examination style questions.   27. Mark schemes Higher The packs you will receive contain all answer in the workbooks. These are on at the end of the non-calculator section and the end of the calculator section. I would recommend that your son/daughter completes the workbook without looking at any answers and then you can mark it. This workbook is split into non-calculator and calculator sections. Foundation The packs you will receive contain all answer in the workbooks. These are on pages 119-125. I would recommend that your son/daughter completes the workbook without looking at any answers and then you can mark it. This workbook is split into algebra, number, statistics and geometry.
