2011 - A special birthday • 200th Birthday of Church Schools • Started by Joshua Watson and his friends • The beginning of free education for everyone in England • It took some time, but now every child in England has the RIGHT to a free education – including YOU!
This year … two special birthdays • 400th Birthday of a special book This is the book every child would use to learn to read two hundred years ago – The Bible
Have you read the Bible, or do you know any Bible stories? What is your favourite story?
What do we do to celebrate birthdays? • Parties? • Cakes? • Presents? Do you remember to say “thank you” when you have been given a present?
How can we say thank you for our education and for the King James Bible? They are two of the biggest presents we have ever been given! Who do we say thank you to?
This year, all schools in the Diocese of Ely are invited to help save three schools in India from being pulled down. Unless they are rebuilt soon, the children will have nowhere to go – they will lose their education. They will be like your ancestors were 200 years ago when they couldn’t read or write. The children who are going to Ely Cathedral in a few days want to raise money to help them – will you help them please?
Let us pray Loving Lord, We are so glad that we have been given so many gifts: we can read and write; we can enjoy the Bible; we can spend time at school learning things which will help us in later life. We do not always remember that other people have more difficult lives and do not have all the advantages that we do. Help us to use the gifts that You have given us to support others. We pray especially for the children of the Diocese of Vellore who are faced with the loss of their schools. We know how much we would hate to lose our school, so please be with us as we work to help them. We remember that they are like our brothers and sisters, even although they live hundreds of miles away. In Your Name, AMEN
