Bread for the World – Protestant Development Service Who we are • A globally active development and relief agency of the Protestant Churches in Germany • Projects in more than 90 countries all over the world • Our Objectives: • help poor and marginalised people to improve their living conditions • assist people in acute need • contribute to create the political and economical prerequisites for overcoming poverty • support development related education and partnership projects of the Protestant churches in Germany • In Germany and Europe: Raise awareness for the correlation between our way of living and hunger and poverty in the developing countries Neues Photo suchen!
Bread for the World – Protestant Development Service Who we are • Bread for the World – Protestant Development Service and Diakonia Germany form the Protestant Agency for Diakonia and Development. • Shared responsibility: campaign for the people suffering from poverty and injustice – in Germany and all over the world • Berlin Head Office -> proximity to parliament, government, ministries, associations and science institutions • Foundation of the new agency in 2012 • Background: merger between the Social Service Agency of the Protestant Church in Germany and the Church Development Service

Bread for the World – Protestant Development Service Our Roots • Bread for the World: launched in 1959 as a fund-raiser of the Protestant Regional and Free Churches • Background: Hardship in many parts of the world as well as gratitude for the relief received in the aftermath of World War II • Initially conceived as a one-off campaign, it quickly became a permanent fixture under the auspices of the EKD Social Service Agency
Bread for the World – Protestant Development Service Our Roots • Protestant Development Service: founded in 1999 • Background: Fusion of several church relief agencies • Services Overseas (DÜ): founded in 1960 • Protestant Central Agency for Development Aid (EZE): founded in 1962 • Church Development Service (KED): founded in 1968 • Ecumenical Missionary World Service of the Protestant Mission (EMW-ÖMW) • Committee for Development-Related Education and Journalism: founded in 1977 • In 2003: Integration of the Ecumenical Study Institute (ÖSW): founded in 1972 • Funding: largely with public and church funds

Projects and Programmes Food security • Strengthen small-scale agriculture • Promote environment-friendly and locally adapted cultivation methods • Demand the right to food and a better trade justice • Advocate an international regulation for the management of land and natural resources
Projects and Programmes Education • Promote education and training projects, especially in rural areas and slums • Demand the right to education, in particular for ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged communities • Support the partner organisations in their campaigns for educational reforms

National Work Partnership Project Fund • Promotion of smaller development projects of church partnership groups • Examples: • Health projects • Educational measures • Acquirement of learning materials • Income-generating measures • Civil society activities • Achievement of project goal in two years maximum
National Work Film Funding • Funding of developmental relevant films from Germany, Europe and the developing countries • Films should provide insights in local, regional and global context or depict ownership and power constellations • Films should be suited for use in parishes, schools and adult education • Responsible: Protestant Centre for Developmental Films (EZEF)
