Explain to the students that over the course of many years the United States Government through the efforts of the U.S.D.A. has implemented strict standards for quality meat cuts and classifications.
Discuss with your students how these standards affect them personally and how the standards in the United States may differ from other countries.
Lead your students into a discussion on how meat products are sold in third world countries.
Discuss with your students how these standards have allowed the American consumer the ability to expect to get what they pay for.
Unit 11 Lesson 1 Objective 1 Teachers: For this unit you will need to go to the “Useful Links” listed for this lesson and go over meat classifications, meat grades, and career opportunities from the downloadable posters, pamphlets, and each individual class provided as a service of the U.S.D.A.
