Line Spectra • Samples of all elements emit light when they are vaporized in an intense flame or when electricity is passed through their gaseous state • The line spectrum for each element is simply the frequency of light given off
Bohr Model of the Hydrogen Atom • Bohr used Rutherford’s planetary model to explain the line spectra of elements • He started with Hydrogen • Each orbital represented an energy level • Each energy level was a quantum • He gave them quantum numbers • N=1 • N=2 • N=3 • Etc.
