I. Discovery Services: kriterier & grundläggande krav • Funktionalitet • snabbhet • Användarvänligt sökgränssnitt med moderna sökfunktioner • t.ex. relevansrankning • bokomslag • facetterad sökning • stavningskontroll • ”menade du...” • mobil applikation • talsyntes • sociala tjänster • integrerat RSS-flöde • egen area för att spara information • stöd för kollaborativt arbete 1. Spännvid 2. Utökade metadata vs. minimi 3. Funktionalitet 4. Strategiskt val av infrastruktur 5. Möjlighet till anpassning

Komponent 6: EBSCO’s Discovery Solution can also add resources NOT available via any discovery service through integrated federation, for example: Ei Compendex EMBASE Encyclopædia Britannica MathSciNet Zoological Record Google Scholar Worldcat

III. EDS in a complex infrastructure setting EBSCO has already been working with three scenarios Multiple catalogs, each institution regularly searches other Consortium Catalog with 1 RTAC Consortium Catalog with multiple RTACs
Location Limiter Primary Catalog is listed first. Admin can default to a single library or set of location(s)
Result List – Searching Multiple Catalogs Real-time Availability Checking with Location information
Detail Record – Searching Shared Catalog w/ Multiple RTACs Detailed Holdings Information
Scenarios for infrastructure decisions in SwedenA. Implementing EDS on a local level • EDS core base index • Index enriched by library’s database subscriptions, catalogue and IRs • Harvesting, receiving, normalizing and indexing of metadata all by EBSCO. • Centrally hosted, available for reuse in local applications via API access • Full institutional branding • Flexibility to create discovery subject subsets. • Connection to the union catalogue LIBRIS via widget or connector
Discovery-tjänst konfigurerad som ”totalsök” Tvärsnitt i materialet för (ämnes)specifika Discovery-portaler
B. Implementing EDS on a regional level – consortium of cooperating institutions • Shared EDS core index • Integration of multiple shared catalogues • Custom EDS enrichment by individual database subscriptions • Regional and/or local branding • Flexibility to create global search and numerous subject specific discovery sub-sets • Benefits through cooperation between libraries in joint marketing and enhancement of the service.
III. Implementing EDS on a national Level (all SUHF or all BIBSAM or all…) • Shared EDS core index basis of the service for all sites • Full integration of the union catalogue LIBRIS into EDS, harvesting metadata via LIBRIS APIs. • Full functionality to narrow search down to local collections • Custom EDS enrichment through individual database subscriptions • Possibility to negotiate unified consortium access for core databases • Full possibilities for national and/or local branding • Full flexibility to create subject specific discovery sub sets • Alternatively/additionally use EDS as data source and present results in national interface.
III. Considerations • EBSCO EDS is commercially available • Quick implementation • High interface user recognition • Significant immediate improvement of access to library collections • Compatible with all currently used library systems and linking services • Flexible setup ensures easy alignment to future changes in the Swedish research infrastructure (L-Libris?).
