Propaganda Techniques • Name Calling: giving an opponent an unpleasant label. • Endorsement: having a well known & well liked person support a candidate • Stacked Cards: presenting only one side of an argument and telling all that is good/bad about a candidate • Glittering Generality: a statement that sounds good but is truly meaningless • The Bandwagon: showing that ‘everyone loves candidate A’ • Just Plain Folks: showing that a candidate is simply a ‘normal person’ like everyone else • Symbols: having symbols in their commercials for appearances sake How are interest groups regulated? Only a certain amount of $$ may be spent by interest groups on campaigns, lobbyist must be registered to lobby, a certain amount of time must pass before a former Congressperson can become a lobbyist.
