  2. Hormones • Hormones regulate your body’s functions. • Hormones are created by glands.

  3. Glands • Thyroid Gland – Controls your metabolism, growth and rate of other body systems • Testes – Male sex gland. Responsible for facial hair, broadening of the shoulders and a deepening of the voice. • Ovaries – Female sex gland. • Pancreas – balances blood sugar. • Adrenal Gland – increases heart rate, constricts blood vessels, dilates air passages and participates in the fight-or-flight response. • Pituitary Gland – Regulates the bodies growth.

  4. Reproduction • Urethra – Carries urine and sperm outside the body. • Menstruation – Occurs when an egg is NOT fertilized. • Ovulation – the release of a mature egg cell • Scrotum – the muscular sac that controls the temperature of the testes. • Sperm matures in the epididymis. • The umbilical cord connect the fetus the mother’s placenta.

Diseases • Communicable Disease – A disease that can be passed from one individual to another. • Non-Communicable Disease – a disease that cannot be passes from one individual to another. • The Skin is the first line of defense against diseases. • The lyphatic system works with the immune system to fight off pathogens. • Most STD’s are treatable. • HIV invades T-Cells • HIV is considered AIDS when white blood cells get bellow 200.
