PICC Department Dynamic Database • A Paper form was first used to collect data for many years. • Utilizing Access and specialized software a dynamic database was developed. • This database has interior security that prevents opening database. • All nurses using the database can be given specific rights to access data. • All data entered is checked for integrity and duplicates are prevented. • Controls on forms are intuitive increasing data entry speed. First Name, Last Name and Date of Birth with duplicate detection. Easy view of all insertions on a current patient. Password Protected from inside the database. Each person is given specific access from the Administrator.
PICC Department Dynamic Database • Data can easily be entered by simply using the tab button eliminating the use of a mouse for most controls. • Little to no Access experience is needed to enter data into database making it user friendly. • For areas where the same selection is likely a dropdown is given. • All areas highlight as the nurse tabs through so no one gets lost while working. • Each page can be saved and returned to later. Easy to record complications including infections and DVT’s. All data easily entered and most fields are intuitive.

PICC Department Dynamic Database • The PICC Database is arelational database management system. • This means events flow in the database as they do in real life. • The database can interact with other files to have real time updates such as reports saved from the EMR. • Old records averaging 1000-1300 PICC’s a year are entered by volunteers for comparison. • Data will be used for further studies on upper extremity DVT’s. Daily Insertion list that works from patient information that has been entered for easy workflow.
