  1. PICC Department Dynamic Database • A Paper form was first used to collect data for many years. • Utilizing Access and specialized software a dynamic database was developed. • This database has interior security that prevents opening database. • All nurses using the database can be given specific rights to access data. • All data entered is checked for integrity and duplicates are prevented. • Controls on forms are intuitive increasing data entry speed. First Name, Last Name and Date of Birth with duplicate detection. Easy view of all insertions on a current patient. Password Protected from inside the database. Each person is given specific access from the Administrator.

  2. PICC Department Dynamic Database • Data can easily be entered by simply using the tab button eliminating the use of a mouse for most controls. • Little to no Access experience is needed to enter data into database making it user friendly. • For areas where the same selection is likely a dropdown is given. • All areas highlight as the nurse tabs through so no one gets lost while working. • Each page can be saved and returned to later. Easy to record complications including infections and DVT’s. All data easily entered and most fields are intuitive.

  3. PICC Department Dynamic Database • This is the table structure of the database • The 1 symbol stands for 1 instance and the infinity symbol stands for many • So one patient can have many insertions which is how the database is designed

  4. PICC Department Dynamic Database • The PICC Database is arelational database management system. • This means events flow in the database as they do in real life. • The database can interact with other files to have real time updates such as reports saved from the EMR. • Old records averaging 1000-1300 PICC’s a year are entered by volunteers for comparison. • Data will be used for further studies on upper extremity DVT’s. Daily Insertion list that works from patient information that has been entered for easy workflow. This is a daily list of patients who are admitted and have a PICC Chris Ensign RN CRNI Maria Seeley RN BSN CRNI Roberta Perrott RN CRNI Built using OpenGate’s Designer™ and UI Builder™Sofware.
