Panama Canal & Causes of WWI By Gordon
How did the panama canal play a role in Americas rise to power? • The panama canal played a big part in America’s rise to power. • It would take more than 2 months to travel to California from far east so the canal played the main role of quicker trade and travel. • Also traveling by boat around South America would have a risk of deadly storms and currents destroying the boat you are traveling in so it played a major role of helping against weather damage • Also it helped military purposes because the Navy played a big part after the Spanish American War • Lastly it played a role in land because it showed other countries that we had more land and power Above is a picture of the canal passage in blue. Above is a picture of ships crossing the locks.

WWI causes • Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia but Russia thought that war would disturb trade • So Russia prepared for war to defeat Hungary but Germany allied with Hungary and demanded that Russia back down but Russia did not listen so Germany declared war on Russia • Because France was Russia's ally it asked if they were going to fight but they did not give a clear answer so Germany declared war on France • Lastly Germany needed to go through Belgium but the king wouldn't let them so Germany invaded Belgium
