Diflucan Partnership Program • Pfizer providing Diflucan (fluconazole) free of charge to governments and NGOS for HIV/AIDS patients with life-threatening opportunistic infections • Program also includes training of health care professionals, patient education, and on-going monitoring and support • No time or cost limits
Program Parameters Diflucan donation is for two indications: • Cryptococcal meningitis • First line treatment of amphotericin B (IV drip in hospital) followed by Diflucan 200mg maintenance therapy • Esophageal candidiasis • Diflucan 200mg for 14 days
Diflucan Partnership Program Program Results since Launch (as of May 03) 16 countries launched to date: Botswana, The Gambia, Ghana, Haiti, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar, Zimbabwe • 86,000 prescriptions processed • 2.5 million tablets dispensed • More than 11,000 health care workers trained
General Roles & Responsibilities PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR • Processes Applications • Communicates with potential recipients • Manages External Review Committee • Provides recommendation to Pfizer • “Green Light” to IDA • Tracks usage • Manages reporting and resupply process • Directs NGOs & Governments to website www.diflucanpartnership.org • Reviews and approves recommendation from Axios • Coordinates quarterly shipping • Guides training • Develops monitoring & evaluation tools DISTRIBUTION AGENT • Stores tablets, IV and OS in warehouse • Ships products to recipients • Tracks shipments DONEE & OUTREACH • Provides approval to IDA • Encourages member agencies in target countries to apply • Assists member agencies in application
