Pupil Classes and Ages • Reception is often referred to as Foundation Stage or EYFS (4-5) • Year One and Year Two are known as Key Stage One (5-7) • Year Three through to Year Six is Key Stage Two (7-11) At Rimon we think it is better to group children in the following ways: • Phase One – Reception and Year One (4-6) • Phase Two – Year Two, Year Three, Year Four (6-10) • Phase Three- Year Five and Year Six (10-11) Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk

  4. Curriculum Provision The Early Years Foundation Stage is taught to all children aged 4-5 in every school in the UK. From Year One through to Year Six pupils are taught the National Curriculum (NC) At Rimon we will teach elements of the NC but we will also teach a creative curriculum and Kodesh. Compulsory national curriculum subjects at primary school are: • English • maths • science • history • geography • design and technology • art and design • music • physical education (PE) • information and communication technology (ICT) Rimon will also teach Kodesh, PSHE (social and emotional literacy) and RE. Maintained schools will now have to teach modern foreign languages from aged 7. This is also something that Rimon will look to do from Phase Two or Year 3 Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk

  5. Subjects and Topics For example: Chocolate topic would explore (Understanding the World, Literacy, geography, science, art and design) In Phase One, pupils will still follow the seven EYFS topic areas but will have daily inputs for: • Literacy, Maths and Kodesh Creative Curriculum topics: • Expressive Arts and Design (music, drama, art and DT) • Understanding the World (Science, IT, RE Humanities ) • Physical Development (dance and PE) Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk

  6. Assessment Throughout the year your child will be assessed in the following way to ensure progress is made and developmental needs are highlighted: • Ongoing formative assessment by the teacher through observation • Weekly phonics/spelling and times table tests • End of term summative tests which will cover: • Reading • Writing • Speaking and listening • Maths Year 1 phonics screening check The check will take place in June when your child will read 40 words out loud to a teacher. You’ll find out how your child did, and their teacher will assess whether he or she needs extra help with reading. Pupils may need to re-do this Check in Year 2 if they do not meet the required level. • Two parents evenings- Autumn and Summer • Termly reports Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk

  7. Parents as Partners • Encouraging independence- drop off, putting things away, empty own bag • Contact the class teacher via email – drop off and collection are busy times • Reading record/homework diary – parents to complete as well as school • Attendance • Homework We welcome parents to come and read stories, share their knowledge , engage in the class topics etc Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk

  8. Attendance • A day is a long time in politics but it is longer in education and harder to catch up. • No holidays are authorised during term time. • Under existing legislation, parents commit an offence if a child fails to attend school regularly and these absences are classed as unauthorised (absences without a valid reason). Dentist and doctor appointments should be made after school as these are not considered valid reasons. • If your child’s attendance dips below the national average or is a cause for concern you will be contacted by the Headteacher. Depending on circumstances such cases may result in prosecution under the Education Act 1996. A Fixed Penalty Notice is an alternative to prosecution and will be used by the school if a pupil’s attendance is a cause for concern. • If your child is ill and will be absent please notify the school office via email or phone by 9am. Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk

  9. Homework • Needs to be beneficial- to consolidate skills taught or to research and gain new knowledge • Need to get into a routine and find a suitable place to do the homework and a have enough time. An hour of homework a week in addition to: • Daily reading • Weekly times tables and spellings Telephone: 0208 209 1805 I Email: office@rimonschool.org.uk I Web: www.rimonschool.org.uk
