Insane Tips Killing Insomnia Symptom By Francis S. Robertson 1245 Walkers Ridge Way Chicago, IL 60607 3rd ED, April 2018
Meaning • When a person has a fever, what we can do to reduce it is to put it in a bathtub with ice cubes. We will get the temperature down and we can have the feeling that we have solved the problem. But clearly we will have confused the symptom, the fever, with the disease, the real problem that we must solve. The origin of the fever is possibly an infection, and lowering the temperature will only maintain and perhaps aggravate the problem. Unfortunately, in many situations of life, and logically of the activity in companies, we confuse the symptom with the problem. Let's take an example. The lack of liquidity of many companies at this time. It all depends on whether we consider the lack of liquidity the problem or the symptom. If we believe that the problem is the solution we will seek, we will simply look for financing alternatives. And if we find them, by the usual banking route, we will consider that the problem is solved. But was that lack of liquidity really the problem, or was it just a symptom of the company's real problem? Because if indeed that was the problem, perfect. But if the problem is derived from a bad structure of the liabilities in the company, with a high dependence on bank financing, we have not solved the problem. We have simply delayed the reappearance in a while. Because the disease was different. Perhaps the low capitalization, perhaps an excessively generous policy in the distribution of dividends, perhaps an inadequate policy of payment to suppliers, perhaps an indebtedness with maturities not adjusted to the capacity of generation of liquidity of the company, perhaps a too relaxed policy in the granting terms to customers, or excessive investment in stocks, or a problem of profitability of the company. Too many causes to solve it by only putting the patient in a bathtub with ice. •
Special Report • Many companies complain today about the impact of the delay of their customers in the collection process. Income flows slow down and investment in customers increases. But what is the symptom or the problem? Many people will say that the delay in itself is THE problem. I would say that it is only ONE of the multiple problems with which we can find ourselves in the collection process. Because if we continue not selecting the clients according to their financial capacity to face the payments, if there are no risk policies that say who to sell and who not to sell, if there are no means of collection policies that make it clear who to charge for receipt and who can be admitted to pay by check transfer, if it is not clear when the relationship with a client must be cut and a contentious action brought, we will have solved only part of the problem. If our client is the Administration, poorly paid and will not change their payment habits for tomorrow, should we continue to depend on her as a priority client? Should we look for new markets? Of course, it is good and necessary to reduce fever to prevent the patient from being in shock. Of course, it is important to avoid a treasury situation that could block the company. Of course, it is important to charge the client to expiration. But immediately we must analyze in depth what is the real problem, what is the true illness of the company, and act for its resolution. Today unfortunately many companies confuse the symptom with the problem. It is considered that if tomorrow the bank opened the hand of financing, many companies would no longer have problems. And that if the Law of Delinquency was strictly applied, there would no longer be problems and the collection managers would not be necessary, only clerical follow-up of the invoices. And that is clearly false, because it is simplistic. We look too much at the symptoms. It's faster more reassuring and more rewarding. But the important thing is to identify and solve the problem. And the deeper the analysis, the more alternatives we can propose and the more effective the solution will be. • • •
