Very sparse literature Recent survey suggested unmet need in acute stroke patients Old paper (1995)- carers report: pain, confusion, low mood & incontinence in last year of life; poor symptom control; little information; staff too rushed; little choice Prognostic markers of limited use for individuals: age, severity stroke, incontinence, impaired consciousness
