Problems at First! • Pay and Benefits may not be top priority in candidates mind • Culture • Opportunities for growth • Style of company
STRATEGIES TO ATTRACT CANDIDATES TO YOUR JOB! • Relax – be friendly and work on building your first and lasting relationship • Know your applicant's needs and wants– Make your offer fully competitive with what they are seeking • Be honest with applicant – Let them know you are looking to fill this position ASAP and would like to know their answer, but be sure to support them as you TOP candidate. • Sell your company and offer – You need to sell your company so how do you do that?? • Minimize delays – Move appropriately when sure • Hold out? -- always looking for the rainbow?? • Deliver on what you promise - Be careful with FYT….
SUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATION • Always be prepared…. • Know your market • Know you limits • Know what candidate feels they want in overall compensation • Understand how to raise the compensation but not the salary
DON’T, DON’T, DON’T' • Promise what you can not deliver • Over sale your job • Through your salary budget out of wack
EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION • One of the most important steps in our process: • First day on job • Builds a long lasting image of what to expect • Shows first impression of you and team • Your orientation will have a significant impact on your new employee.
ORIENTATION – FIRST DAY Number one -- Be ready for your new “Team Member” • YOU must be available yourself on the first day • Ensure you tell them they will spend some time in HR the first day and will join your team when you are completed. (Some companies will keep new employees for a couple of days of new orientation) But, be sure you meet them the first day and welcome them on board • Ensure they understand your company and department policies • Communicate YOUR VISION • Ensure they know YOUR expectations for them in their new role
ORIENTATION – FIRST DAY (Cont) • Give team member their review and explain what YOU are looking for. • Have team meeting and introduce them to all and assign buddy/ mentor • Give tour • Communicate YOUR VISION • Ensure they know YOUR expectations for them in their new role
CONTINUE ORIENTATION • Why do people leave your company??? • Keep positive momentum going • Provide ongoing training • Talk with YOUR team members • Use feedback • Learn from your new hires
