  2. “Creative…Fun…Energetic…” • Meets every other Thursday after school • Approximately 15-20 students involved • Enhance student lives with art and to contribute art displays in the building and community • Community service including empty bowl sale for St. Susan’s kitchen • Accomplishments include permanent art in the school and raising money for those in need • “We let kids who otherwise might be able to, make art”.   3. “Excited…Involved…Though-provoking…” • Each group meets once a week (Lunch 1 & Lunch 2) • Approximately 15 students in L1 and 6 in L2 • The goal of each group is to promote the enjoyment of reading • Book club has successfully promoted the group and grown from a small group of 6 to the 2 groups with close to a total of 20 students Book ClubBarb Kane

Meets once a week but most students come twice a week • Approximately 30 students involved • Give an enhanced opportunity to advanced singers through performance • Sing at various organizations throughout the holiday season • Choraliers has brought a positive face to SWHS through community performances and festivals. • Viewed as outstanding students and outstanding young people “Musical…Excellence…Community…” ChoraliersSue Huther

  5. “Marketing…Entrepreneurship…Education…” • Meetings are held twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) • Membership has varied over the years, this year approx. 12 • The students prepare for competition in the Business, Marketing, ad Entrepreneurship areas. These competitions are held regionally for qualification to the State level; and at the State level for qualification to the National level. • DECA has partnered with the Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union in the past for activities such as the Jamestown Christmas parade • Over the past 15 years, DECA has qualified for the National competition 8 times DECA and School StoreJim Casini

  6. “Teamwork…Exciting…Creative…” • Meet every Wednesday after school 3:20-4:30 • Approximately 32 students involved • December; Charles’ Dickens’, A Christmas Carol • Community performances • Accomplishments include friendships, cooperation and team work 5th grade drama clubLinda Rinaldo

  7. “Interesting…Real-world…Competitive…” • Meet once every two weeks • Approximately 5-10 students involved • Prepare the team to compete in the county Envirothon competition • Four 1st place finishes in the last year EnvirothonBrian Muirhead

Meets every two weeks • Approximately 20 students involved • To learn more about French speaking words and French in our community • Community Service; Walk for paws, Busti Apple Festival, Breast Cancer Walk, St. Susan’s kitchen • Traveled to Europe “Students helping others…” French Club Autumn Mazzone

  10. “Witty…Boisterous…Pedantic…” • Meet twice a month for practice depending on student schedules • Compete every month as long as we remain in the competition • Approximately 10 students involved • Represent the school and showcase the scholastic aptitude of students in our district • Two years ago, the high school bowl team consisted of six 8th graders and the team defeated their opponents who were juniors and seniors • Last year they moved further in the competition brackets than the previous year High School BowlJulia Casselman

  12. “Witty…Boisterous…Academic…” • Thursday’s after school • Approximately 18 students involved • Meet students from area schools and learn good sportsmanship while showcasing their academic wit • Understanding what it means to be a “team” • Every year quiz bowl has managed to make it into JCC’s Middle School challenge and have brought the first place trophy home twice!   13. Musical begins at the end of the previous show • Pick a new show and prepare over the summer • Students audition in October and meet weekly until January (approximately 4 days per week for 12-14 hours) • Meet every day for 3 weeks before the show; 9 hour tech Saturday • Approximately 100 students involved • Community Service; Senior to Senior dinner, Allowing 200 senior citizens to watch show for free MusicalChristine Beichner

The goal of the musical is to provide the much needed culture of music and entertainment that both our students and community benefit from • Students and teachers work together to create a show that has truly become known as one of the best in WNY! • Many accomplishments; numerous musical students going off to college to become professional musicians MusicalChristine Beichner

  15. “Service…Character…Scholarship…” • Officer meet on the second Thursday of each month after school while the entire group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month • Approximately 66 students involved • Provide service to our school and community • Community service projects include St. Susan’s kitchen, Cystic Fibrosis Walk, JDRF Walk, Relay for Life, Joint Neighborhood Project, Angel Tree for Salvation Army, Bell ringing for Salvation Army and Tutoring in all 3 buildings • Raised $350 for St. Susan’s kitchen last year by holding a penny war National Honor SocietyTami McKotch

  17. “Educational… Worthwhile… Important…” • Pep band-Meet every other day for 30 minutes the first and last quarter of school; Band every other day • Approximately 70 students involved • Provide music, cheer, and school spirit at football games and pep rallies and sometimes special events in the community • Community Service; Memorial day parade, Busti Veteran’s Day Ceremony, Tanglewood, Memory Gardens • Concert band played for the arrival of the King of Sweden at JCC last October Pep/Parade BandJamie Sigler

  21. “Student-directed…Diverse…Fun…” • Meet every 4th Tuesday for the Costa Rica trip; Every 2nd Tuesday, teens for teens; Honduran Spanish/English book group 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s • Approximately 25 altogether • Host cultural activities centering around holidays, food and crafts; Costa Rica students focus on planning and fundraising for upcoming trip • Spanish book group- creating parallel Spanish/English books to send to a woman who works with inner city teens who are learning English at a basic level • Plan and host parties for Day of the Dead, Las Posadas and Easter. • Brings together a group of students who may not have worked with each other Spanish ClubDana Lovecchio

  22. Meets twice a month; Entire group and then just officers • Student council has approximately 38 members • Keep students actively engaged in the learning process and the school environment at SW by allowing them to make decision that will impact the building • Many fundraisers for charities and Clean up Jamestown projects • Helped purchase the school sign, instrumental in some changes to daily activities that have brought back pride and spirit back to our school • Sponsor homecoming, spirit week events and pep rallies “Fair…Spirited... Meet whenever there is a presentation in the auditorium including the school musical • Approximately 10-12 students involved • Introduce students to theater tech skills and provide technical support to performances in the school • Build the scenery for every school musical theater production and run the shows from backstage “Tech crew rocks!” Technical Crew Steve Bush

  24. “Exemplary…Essential…Valuable…” • Students are out in the community and in the school Monday-Thursday mornings and afternoons • Approximately 18-20 special education students involved • Teaches work behaviors and work skills in a community setting while exposing students to job exploration and give them an advantage when applying for employment • Volunteer work in the community setting; SPCA, St. Susan’s kitchen, WCA Hospital, Tanglewood, Salvation Army, Post Journal, LUV Toyota, and many more. • 75% employment rate upon graduation for our most needy students in our district Transition CoordinatorMaryGrace Guarino
