Facebook is dead No, Not really!
QR Codes (Quick Response) Communication in the 21st Century
What’s the big deal? • Book Reports • Backboards can be digitalized • Announcements • Class trailer videos • Website links • http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ • Neo Reader app
Getting Started • 1.) mobile device app • Neo Reader, • QR Reader, Red • Laser, etc….
By using Snap.vu, the content embedded in a QR Code can be changed and managed at any time. One QR Code posted at the front of the room, in a student's notebook or in a textbook can be managed to point at any content: website, video, audio, document...
enhance Classroom Learning • Print a QR Code on a sticker and place in a text book at the relevant point. Students scan the QR Code are taken to related material, for example a video, web page or source of further information.
Open House or Parent Meetings • Group work • Reenactments • Labs • Classroom Trailers
Create a virtual tour of the school Put some QR codes around the school. One in the entrance - linking to a text of the school mission statement or URL of school website. Office-linking to school vision. Outside classroom student work, video clips, etc…
Make Displays Interactive • Add QR Codes to classroom displays to enrich and make interactive by linking to: • videos of how the display was made (e.g. making stuff in technology); • Blogposts on students’ commentaries on their artwork, poems, writing; • Further information about the country, period in history, person etc; • A Google Form for feedback.
Create a Kinesthetic Reading Adventure • Create a "choose your own adventure" story that has individual QR Codes that need to be scanned in order to advance through the story. • Place the QR codes around the school to encourage movement
Create a Kinesthetic Reading Adventure • Student Writing • Choose your own ending-Student write short stories and the reader scans a QR code to determine what happens. The author has to come up with two alternative endings. • Mysteries-In crime or mystery stories, the reader scans who they believe committed the crime.
TWITTER Some more ideas 1.) Tweet Stories-Assign students a number and they must write a story together in order. Each student gets 140 characters to add on to the part before. 2.) Tweet standards or Essential Questions-allow students to tweet what they did from a class account. They have to summarize what went on in a 140 characters.
IS there really an App for that? • Student Created App Project App Inventor-a do-it-yourself mobile app creation tool that lets anyone build their own Android applications without needing to know how to program or even write a line of code. Instead, using an online interface, would-be developers visually design the app's interface and interactions, using drag-and-drop blocks that specify what the app should look like and how it should behave. www.shoutem.com
Flipping the Classroom • Video lessons or lectures • Learns at home • Applies at school
Screen Captures www.jingproject.com Record exactly what you are doing with the slates, and students can have instant access of what they learned in class or what they missed, INCLUDING YOUR VOICE.
