The Drive for Reform • Origins- • Many walks of life (political parties, social classes, ethnic groups, and religions) • Common beliefs • Belief that industrialization and urbanization had created troubling social and political problems • Similar to Populist movement—change corrupt gov. • Different-progressives were middle class people
Progressives Target Variety of Problems • Political reform • Women’s right to vote • Honest gov. • Cities needed adequate services • “bust the trusts” wanted more smaller businesses • Reduce gap between rich and poor
