Detoxification, Central Assessment & Drop-In Center • In 1995, the Summit County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board opened the ADM Crisis Center. Oriana House Inc., was chosen as the agency to oversee the Detoxification, Central Assessment and Drop-In Center.

Where Are We Located? • 15 Frederick Ave., Akron, OH • South Entrance • Located on the 1st floor of the ADM Crisis Center

Who Do We Serve? • Summit County Residents • Individuals who need AoD Assessments • Court ordered • Referred by Probation Departments and other community agencies • Self-referred • Need for outpatient and-or residential AoD treatment based on the ASAM-LOC

What Makes Us Special!! • We are centrally located • All staff are certified and/or licensed • Located below Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) • Adjacent to St. Thomas Hospital • Detox/Drop-In are in same facility • Open 7 Days a week/24 hours a day • Intra-agency referrals are provided • Appointments for needed treatment services are given following every assessment service.

Detoxification Unit • 16 bed sub-acute facility • Target population: Adults in Summit County who are intoxicated and/or experiencing sub-acute withdrawal symptoms

Detoxification Unit • Clients may be self referred, referred by family or friends, physicians, community agencies, police, court personnel, or probation and parole officers.

Detoxification Unit • Services provided at the Detoxification unit are voluntary.

Detoxification Unit • Admission to Detox is based on a nursing assessment that suggests the client requesting admission is experiencing or is expected to experience sub-acute withdrawal symptoms.

Detoxification Unit Some types of drugs for which individuals may commonly suffer withdrawal symptoms are: • Opiates • Benzodiazepines • Alcohol

Detoxification Unit • Once the client is admitted they are provided with medical support by a physician and nursing staff which is provided 24 hours a day.

Detoxification Unit • During the average 3 to 5 day stay clientele are not only provided a supportive environment where they are assured to have a safe withdrawal, but they are also evaluated by a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.

Detoxification Unit • The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor completes a comprehensive AoD assessment with the client, determines the ASAM level of care for treatment and assures the client has a follow up appointment scheduled prior to discharge.

Detoxification Unit • Clients are considered successfully released if they’ve completed their medical regimen. • However, if the client leaves the unit before completing their medical regimen, they will be leaving against medical advice (AMA).

Detoxification Unit • Individual and Group counseling is provided for clientele during their stay. • Furthermore, there are volunteers who are in recovery from addiction who offer words of encouragement and hope to clients in withdrawal.

The Waiting List For IBH/RAMAR • High Risk clients placed on the top of the list: Pregnant, IV users, HIV/AIDS, Mental Health • Firstcome,first bed based on assessment date • Call-in’s once a week to the Program Assistant • Wait can take from 12-16 weeks (IBH) • Women’s list usually shorter than male list • RAMAR recommends IOP treatment prior to residential placement

Detoxification Unit • Cost to client is based on a sliding fee scale, however, nobody is ever turned away because of a inability to pay.

Drop-In Center Provides a safe, supportive environment where clients can recuperate from the acute effects of alcohol and/or drugs intoxication. Accommodates 16 males/females

Drop-In Center • Clients are self-referred • May be brought to the facility by local law enforcement agencies • Referred by other community agencies

Drop-In Center Eligibility criteria is the following: 1. Alcohol BAC is .005 or higher 2. The client is noticeably under the influence of a substance 3. Client has an unsteady gait, slurred speech and other signs of intoxication.

Drop-In Center • Clients are evaluated by a nurse upon intake and are monitored by a staff nurse to assure they have a safe recuperation in the Drop-In Center. • Clients remain in the Drop-In Center six to ten hours so they can rest.

Drop-In Center • Based on needs the client can shower, launder clothing, and/or receive a snack.

Drop-In Center • The client is monitored for withdrawal symptoms and other medical problems. • Assessment and referral services are available to clients willing to participate.

Drop-In Center • There is no cost to the client for this service.

Central Assessment Department • Provides AoD assessments to individuals who are in need of assessment and referral services for substance-related disorders • Five (5) Licensed Counselors staff the Central Assessment Department

Central Assessment Department • Referrals are often initiated for the individual seeking assessment services. • Most times referrals are initiated by probation and parole officers, court personnel, family members or friends.

Central Assessment Department • The client meets with a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor for the assessment interview, and completes a SASSI-3, to determine the DSM IV-TR diagnosis for eligibility for treatment services.

Central Assessment Department • Alco-sensor tests and urinalysis drug screens are conducted for all court and Summit Link referrals • CA is open until 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday and until 4:00 pm on Friday. • Walk-ins are accepted • Community Voice Mail is provided for clients on the Waiting List for Residential treatment services

Central Assessment Cost is based on a sliding fee scale, however, nobody is ever turned away for an inability to pay

Summit Link Program • Identify, assess and recommend eligible offenders for substance abuse/dependence assessment and referral services, thereby providing the court system a method to divert appropriate offenders to treatment.

Summit Link Program • Target Population is: male/female misdemeanant offenders or traffic offenders in need of assessment and treatment for substance-related disorders. • Referrals come from the court system

Summit Link Program • A Summit Link Court Liaison is designated to manage the referrals that come through the program.

Summit Link Program • Assessment Services • Case Management • Treatment referrals based on level of care • Follow up communication with the Akron and Summit County legal system

Summit Link Program • There is no cost for services provided by the Summit Link Program • Successful completion is based on the client following the mandate arranged by the referring court
