  5. TWIST analysis and foldable • In your Reader’s Notebook (3rd section): • Glue the poem on the left side of the spiral • When you are done with the foldable it will go on the right side • I’m going to show you how to analyze the poem “Po Bo’ Blues” by Langston Hughes using the TWIST method

  6. “Theme for English B” • Read the poem SILENTLY • Think about the subject of the poem • What do you think Hughes might believe about the subject of the poem? • When you are done reading it turn to page 20 to signal you are finished

  7. Theme for English B

  8. Theme for English B • Review the directions for your job • Read the poem again SILENTLY keeping your job in mind • Make notes as you read • Fill out your section of the TWIST chart on page 20 • Don’t forget your textual support (quote from the poem!) • You have 15 minutes to complete your part of the chart

  9. Group Presentation • Discuss your answers with your group • Check each other’s work (you do want a good grade don’t you?) • Develop your theme and thesis statement. Remember they should both be COMPLETE SENTENCES! • Create a TWIST chart on the poster to present your findings to the class • You don’t necessarily have to use the same graphic organizer. You can be creative. Just make sure what you design has all the necessary elements. • You have 25 minutes to do this

  10. Analysis of TWIST • You are going to pass your poster to the group on your RIGHT (we’re going clockwise) • Work with your group to fill out the analysis sheet • Everyone should turn in the completed sheet. If anyone in the group is missing the sheet the whole group will get points off. HELP EACH OTHER! • Make sure you are KIND to other groups • No overtly negative remarks or ugliness please • You have 30 minutes to complete your analysis
