Introduction • Did you ever wonder where a butterfly comes from? In this book, you will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Click on the butterfly below to view pictures that show the stages a butterfly goes through.
Before Reading • Before reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar take a picture walk through the story and make predictions with your partner about what may happen to The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
During Reading • While reading, think about this question: Does a caterpillar need to eat in order to become a butterfly? What did The Very Hungry Caterpillar eat that made him have a stomach ache? Click on the caterpillar to print out a recording sheet. Record what he ate throughout the week.
After Reading • Now that you have completed the book, click on the butterfly below to show pictures from the story. Print the pictures and use them to retell the story to a partner.
Beyond Reading • Now that you learned about the life cycle of a butterfly, write a letter to your pen pal telling him or her about the butterfly’s life cycle. Be sure to include the five parts of a friendly letter. Click on the butterfly below and print the paper for your letter.
