Schiltron • A schiltron is a large circle of men who carry 15 ft pikes • They train to make a circular formation and hold the pikes facing outwards • It is virtually a wall of spears • At Bannockburn many English knights crashed to their death against the Scottish schiltrons
King Robert? • Robert wanted to be king of the Scots and after the battle of Bannockburn he announced that he was king • Robert prepared well for the battle and used the geography of the area to his advantage
Bannockburn • Robert planned to block in the English along the old roman road • Some English tried to attack from a path behind castle Stirling and were well hid BUT Robert spotted them and sent Randolph to deal with them • The English charged but hit the _______ • The bodies of the dead blocked the English army’s way
